Meaningful products inspired by simpler times.

For the better part of the 20th century, letter boards served as an efficient way of neatly and uniformly displaying dynamic information. They’re plain, they’re not digital, and they require a little bit of labor. And yet, despite all of their shortcomings, there’s an unmistakable beauty in these boards. The sharp contrast of the white serif letters against the textured jet-black felt. The subtle artistry of letter placement, kerning and leading. The power of a single word against a sea of negative space.

It’s for all these reasons and more that we wanted to repurpose, reimagine, and redesign yesterday’s letter board for today’s home. At the time, we never could have imagined how our seed of an idea could have exploded into the everyday life moments, milestones, announcements, and events that letter boards are used for today.

As Letterfolk has grown, so has our brand vision and product offering. At the core of every Letterfolk product is our passion to create premium, meaningful products. We design products that add purpose and beauty to our homes and our lives — products that tell your story, products that create experiences, products that pull us off our devices and into the physical world. Our mission is to design products that matter.

Hi! We're Johnny and Joanna, the husband/wife cofounders of Letterfolk, an American brand dedicated to creating meaningful products inspired by simpler times. The idea for Letterfolk started in June 2015 as we searched for a unique way to capture our second child's monthly baby milestone photos. We decided to design a modern letter board tailored and repurposed for today's home. A year later, we left our respective copywriting and copyediting careers to pursue Letterfolk full time.

When we're not writing out love notes, 90's hip hop lyrics and passive aggressive reminders on our letter boards, we enjoy spending time as a family with our three kids, binge-watching Netflix, and pretending to know what "work-life balance" looks like.

We strive to design meaningful products worthy of the stories they'll tell. And there's no greater satisfaction for us than knowing they've found a place in your home.
